Paperwork

June 23 - August 18, 2023

"Paperwork", an exhibition curated by J. Hughes, is a group show of contemporary and mid-century prints and drawings. Featured artists include Elizabeth Buchta, Bunny Burson, Paul Cadmus, Eduardo Chillida, Leonardo Cremonini, Yvette Drury Dubinsky, Kalven Duncan, Anthony Gross, Leslie Laskey, Sarah Anne Loving, Henri Matisse, and Buzz Spector.

This show contrasts the status of works on paper as both archival materials and as a means of generation. Image making on paper is well established within the context of fine art, but these objects also afford unique advantages over paintings or sculptures. The medium of printmaking in particular challenges the notion of the unique art object by producing editions of multiples—although monotypes further complicate this narrative. The life of printed and drawn images are tokens of exchange and communication, and for this reason we collect and display these valuable works.
