Mee Jey: Cape of Continuity

September 20 - December 21, 2024

Bruno David presents Cape of Continuity, a sculpture installation by multi-disciplinary Indian-born St. Louis based artist Mee Jey. The installation in the WINDOW ON FORSYTH is on view 24/7 at 7513 Forsyth Blvd., Saint Louis (Downtown Clayton), MO. This is the artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.

Cape of Continuity is a collective creative act of coming together and weaving a cape that represents community, adorned with the personal objects of offerings to mark the presence and significance of each individual involved. The 'community' again came together to celebrate the completion of the Cape and members of the audience became performers by wearing the Cape and paraded around. Jey creates visual narratives with and around repurposed materials, immigrants and community in her unique ways by collaborating with the local communities.

Mee Jey received a M.F.A. from Sam Fox School of Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, Master’s degree in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University and MPhil in Liberal Arts from Ambedkar University in Delhi, India. Awarded with St. Louis Visionary Emerging Artist award (2022) and Mother Art Prize (London, UK 2022), she has performed and exhibited her work at Museum of Quilt and Textiles, Los Angeles, Michigan University, NYC, Province Town (MA), Columbia, Alton (IL), South Texas University, Athens (Greece), London (UK), India and all the major art institutions in St. Louis including Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Kemper Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), Laumeier Sculpture Park, Craft Alliance and Kranzberg Arts Foundation.
